A Florida based cardiothoracic team starts arriving for workshops and surgery today. They will be working with our own local cardiothoracic team at the Bustamante Hospital for Children. One of the highlights from JHS will be a workshop featuring representatives from Respironics and Novametrix Medical Systems. The workshop is centred around two main products, the NICO (non-invasive cardiac output). The world's only integrated and non-invasive cardiopulmonary management system. The NICO system allows you to monitor effective cardiopulmonary performance. The non-invasive NICO provides hemodynamic and ventilation management tools that can help guide fluid replacement and weaning protocols. This easy-to-use, compact and completely automated device uses the CO2-Fick method to measure cardiac output, cardiac index, stroke volume, and systemic vascular resistance, and it combines measurements of airway flow, pressure, volume, mainstream capnography, and pulse oximetry to profile the patient’s respiratory status including carbon dioxide elimination (VCO2), alveolar tidal volume (Vtalv), physiologic deadspace (Vd/Vt), and pressure/volume and flow/volume loops.
